A VAR for the Champions. Summary of Getafe - Sevilla. (21/04/18)

Getafe recovered the Champions League position against Sevilla in a highly controversial game. 


   The game today was a very final to keep up Getafe qualified for the next Champions League edition. Every fan of both teams had a very feeling about this match, but the referee (Mateu Lahoz) took center stage.

   Bordalás surprised all Getafe supporters. He understood that Gaku Shibasaki needed to be lined up since the beginning despite of he haven't played any match with Getafe since December (he played Asia Cup for Japan in January/February). Gaku gains self-confidence, good news for The Deep Blues who need players like him in this hard times.

   Nothing was happening in the game when ‘Mudo’ Vázquez commited a penalty blocking the ball with his arm inside the box when Cabrera headed the ball. The referee didn’t blow the whistle but the VAR corrected him. Mateu went to the monitor and he blew the whistle pointing that the previous action was finally penalty. Mata didn’t fail and scored 1-0.

   A similar action happened in the last minute, resulting in another penalty pointed for Getafe. The referee dind’t see anything but VAR corrected him again. This time was worse for Sevilla, because Escudero was sent-off. Molina scored the second penalty to put the 2-0 on the scoreboard.

   Getafe started the second half very furious playing quickly and accurately. The game was over when Molina scored the 3-0 just after receive a good pass from Mata. The bad news for Getafe came up when Djené was sent-off by Mateu Lahoz, after his third VAR's correction.

Getafe recover the fourth position just before a new derby game at Coliseum, against Real Madrid.
